Glass Art - Artist Details

SHAW, Gayle
  Glass Artist
Graceville, Queensland

Gayle Shaw has a Diploma of Art (Fine Art) College of Art, Brisbane and has worked with glass for over 15 years.

“I am committed to creating colourful glass objects through both simple and complex designs which reflect the colours and aesthetics of the natural environment. I enjoy the luminous quality of glass and the beautifully clear and strikingly colourful glasses which I use. I feel the colours are alive and express the vibrancy of the world around me.

My fused and slumped work is characterized by detailed design using precisely cut and placed glass pieces which are then fused together into one piece. It is always exciting to open my kiln and see the final item waiting to be held to the light.

My move into making glass beads has been exciting and challenging in design and technique. The possibilities are endless and always rewarding. Again, the colours bring life to the internal character of some beads and the surface decoration of others.”

Over the last five years Shaw has exhibited regularly with Ausglass during the national glass conferences, in the Alice Craft Acquisitive, and been a finalist in the memento Queensland Merchandise Awards.
